FFA CORNER 2013-2014

This is Tyler, and I am currently a senior at Chillicothe High School. This is my third year in FFA. My SAE project this summer was working at the Litton Ag Center full time mowing, weed eating, running tractors and other miscellaneous tasks. Before I was hired for the job, I had no clue how to run a tractor or a skid steer. After running them all summer, it just comes natural to me. I also improved my maintenance skills on lawn mowers and the tractors I can run. After I graduate, I plan on moving to Springfield, Missouri, and finding a welding job full time to start the next chapter in my life. Some advice to younger students would be to join FFA because you will learn new skills like leadership, finance, and time management. It is also a blast with all the fun activities you have an opportunity to be involved in. Therese - I am a senior this year at Chillicothe High School. I have been a member of the Chillicothe FFA for the last four years. My SAE project is raising and showing rabbits. My project has taught me a valuable lesson on how to care for more than one rabbit at a time. My rabbits are used for meat and show. When we can't show some of rabbits, then we have to cull them out and take them to the Tina Sale Barn. After I graduate from high school, I want to go to NCMC and get my major in an Agriculture related field. My favorite part about FFA is all the fun activities, especially Barnwarming. My advice to younger students is to have fun and participate.
Matt - This is my senior year at Chillicothe High School, and I have been in FFA for four years. My Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) includes maintaining 50 acres of soybeans and working a part time job at Royal Inn. The diversity of these two jobs has made me very diverse and honest with my coworkers. This is my second year of being an officer, and this year I am a second vice president. This summer I attended the State FFA Camp and sat through hours of leadership sessions and with all that hard work, I received my State Leadership Medal. I also attended Washington Leadership Conference (WLC) this summer. I had a terrific time In Washington D.C. seeing the monuments and meeting amazing people from all over the United States. After attending all of these events, I have realized that my leadership and public speaking has improved greatly. My plan after high school is to go to college and receive my masters in either mechanical or agricultural engineering. I have been accepted to Missouri Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri; Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas; and Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. I plan to attend Iowa State because they have a well renowned engineering department, and it is the closest to home of the other two schools. I would advise all the students younger than me to make the most out of the opportunities provided to you through Ag and FFA. Mallory - This is my senior year at Chillicothe High School. I have been a member of the Chillicothe FFA for four years. My SAE project includes my horse, cow and calf, and 30 acres of soybeans every year. I plan to attend college after I graduate high school and become a neonatal nurse. The two skills I have gained the most are responsibility and leadership. My advice to younger students is to be involved as much as possible because your four years of high school flies by.
Logan - Hello I am a senior at Chillicothe high school; I currently have my chapter degree. I have no future plans with my SAE project. I am currently involved in the Boy Scouts of America with Troop 121. I enjoy being in FFA because it's a great leadership program and builds character, there's also a lot of fun to have in this organization. After graduation, I plan on attending possibly Northwest in Maryville, Missouri, and getting a teaching degree for high school and middle school. I plan on doing as I may to help others at all times and keeping myself ready for whatever may come. Kerrigann - I am a senior at Chillicothe High School. This is my fourth active year in FFA. My SAE project includes showing and caring for rabbits and running my own photography business, Just Cos' Photography. My SAE project has taught me responsibility and how much it pays off to accomplish something on my own. The opportunities I have had in FFA have helped me grow and get ready for my future. My future includes going to college to study Wildlife Biology. FFA has taught me to never hold back. You have to be out there doing things to actually get somewhere in this organization and I'm glad I've had the opportunity to be part of it. My advice for the underclassmen is have fun. FFA is only what you make of it and if you don't get involved and have fun with it then you are missing out.
Elliott - The 2013-14 school year marks my final year at Chillicothe High School. I have been a member of the Chillicothe FFA Chapter since my freshman year. My SAE involves working at Chilli Bay Water Park. Also, I raise and show cattle. This SAE has taught me responsibility, how to manage money, and helped me decide what I wanted to do with my life. After high school, the most important goal I have in life is to help others. My experience working and being in an Ag setting has prepared me for a successful future. I plan to attend the University of Missouri and major in biochemistry. I then plan to assist with research on making biodiesel out of algae more efficient. Other than that my future lies on the road ahead of me. My advice to my peers and underclassmen is always give your all; if you're going to do something don't do it halfway. Brittney - This is my senior year at Chillicothe High School. I have been in FFA since my freshman year. I am in FFA, 4H, FCCLA, and cheerleading. After my high school career, I plan to go to college to become a teacher. My Supervised Occupational Experience Project is swine. In 4-H I show cattle. My projects have taught me to learn responsibility and to be on time. I find my AG classes really important because of all the things I have learned and all the experiences I've had. I have learned through FFA that you should never be afraid to go out of your comfort zone. My advice for younger students is to trust and listen to your AG teachers - without them I wouldn't be who I am today.
This is my senior year at Chillicothe High School. I have been a member of Chillicothe FFA during all four years. The Supervised Agricultural Experience projects I have are mowing lawns in the summer and helping on the family farm. From my SAE project, I have learned how to manage my time better and balance money. My favorite part about FFA would be Barnwarming because it's a competition between grades on who raises the most money, and it helps out our chapter. My advice for new members of the Chillicothe FFA chapter would be to keep track of your record book and do it right the first time and also to stay involved in the activities. My future plans for college include going to the University of Missouri to study to become an engineer. Then after I graduate from college, I plan to find a job as close to Chillicothe as I can. --Connor I am currently a senior at Chillicothe High School, and I hold the Chapter FFA Degree. This is my fourth year as a member of Chillicothe FFA. My SAE project is in placement, which involves me working part-time at the front desk as a cashier and waitress at Royal Inn Pizza in Chillicothe, Missouri. My SAE project has helped my gain a lot of leadership qualities. I have also gained a lot of responsibility, not only for myself but others as well. My favorite thing about FFA is not an event or the contests. It is the fact that we are all a large family; we are always watching over one another. We have multiple opportunities to get together and bond and that is exactly what we do. Outside of FFA, I am involved in track, cross country, Future Business Leaders of America, Family Career and Community Leaders of America, Hunting and Fishing Club, Student Council, and Key Club. I volunteer 18 hours every weekend at our local animal shelter, and I am also the founder of the fundraiser Kinen Cake Balls. After I graduate, I plan on double majoring in Biology and Graphic Design at Stephens College in Columbia. My advice to younger students is to not worry about what others think of you and to not let your mistakes define you. Bounce back from any difficulties in life and always remember to "never quit". --Brittany
Cody K - This is my senior year at Chillicothe High School. I've been participating in FFA for four years now. My SAE Project is showing a market hog each year and working a part-time job for a local farmer. The variety of the jobs I've done really helps me learn new skills for my future such as good work ethic and responsibility around the work place. I plan on attending College at NTI "Nascar Technical Institute". I think the greatest advice I've gathered at the Litton Agriculture Campus is from my advisors "work hard and smart" and you will have a great career in the future.  Brianna - This is my senior year at Chillicothe High School. I have been an active member of the Chillicothe FFA the last four years. My SAE project includes showing and caring for my rabbits and working a part-time job. My SAE project has taught me responsibility and how much it pays off to work hard for my future and accomplishing something on my own. The opportunities I have experienced in FFA have helped me grow and get ready for my future. My future after high school includes going to a four year university at either Missouri Western State University or Missouri State University to study nursing to become a Flight Nurse. FFA has taught me to never hold back from achieving anything. You have to be out there and accomplishing the goals you have set for yourself. My advice for the underclassmen is to have fun while you are in FFA and enjoy your high school years. You may think that it is taking forever to get through high school, but it does fly by fast. High school and FFA are only what you make of them; and if you don't get involved and make it fun, then you are missing out.
Mark - This is my senior year at Chillicothe High School. I have been a FFA member since my freshman year in high school. I have lived in Chillicothe all my life. My SAE fell under the category of placement. After I graduate high school, I am going to attend the Grand River Technical School Diesel Mechanic program and then go on pursuing my choice of career in being a mechanic in both diesel and gasoline engines. Alicia - I am a senior at Chillicothe High School, and I am a fourth year FFA member. I currently hold the chapter FFA degree and serve as a Chapter 2nd Vice President. My Supervised Agricultural Experience consists of raising and showing swine, a part-time job at Chilli Bay Water Park, and mowing lawns. Through my SAE project, I was able to gain more knowledge about agriculture, and it also taught me that hard work really does pay off. Outside of FFA, I am actively involved in Student Council, Junior Sorosis Pledges, National Honor Society, as well as many other clubs and organizations. My favorite part of FFA is attending all of the interventions because it gives me a chance to meet a wide variety of people and step outside of my comfort zone. After I graduate, I plan on attending Northwest Missouri State University to attain my Early Childhood Education degree and then return to Chillicothe to be a kindergarten teacher. Without FFA, I would not be where I am today. FFA has taught me not only responsibility and a good work ethic, but it has also helped me become a strong leader in my community. The best advice I have to offer to younger students is to not wish all your high school years away, it goes by way too fast as it is.
Hi, I'm Tucker. This is my senior year at Chillicothe High School. I have been a member of the Chillicothe FFA during the last three and a half years. We have several cows on our farm, and my SAE project includes raising Hereford cattle and working for my neighbor part time. The variety of my project allows me to gain valuable skills and responsibility. In the future, I plan on attending NCMC then transferring to Northwest Missouri State University. My ag teachers have all had an impact on me teaching us work ethic, strong community participation, and responsibility. My advice to younger students is to get involved with everything you do because if you don't, you will definitely regret it. I'm Shantel - currently a senior at Chillicothe High School. This is my fourth year in FFA, and I currently hold the Chapter FFA Degree. My SAE project includes raising and exhibiting swine. I have also added a placement project to my SAE as well, working at Chilli Bay Water Park. The diversity of my two projects allows me to gain more responsibility and strong leadership skills. I plan on attending North Central Missouri College after I graduate and then transferring to Northwest Missouri State University majoring in Agribusiness. I am very involved in Student Council as well as many other clubs and organizations. My favorite part of FFA is being around people that enjoy and represent FFA in many ways. My favorite activities in FFA are Barnwarming and participating on contest teams. The best advice I have for all younger members is to get involved now - don't wait and miss out on all the opportunities FFA has to offer. The more things you do and get involved in, the more fun you will have.
Brandon: Hello, I am currently a senior at Southwest R-1 Livingston High School. I am in my fourth year of FFA and currently hold my State FFA Degree, I am also the Chapter Vice-president. After graduating, I plan to attend The University of Missouri, majoring in Ag Business. FFA has helped me to develop strong leadership skills and responsibility which will help me throughout the rest of my life. My advice to younger members would be: you get out of FFA what you put into it. Never be afraid to try new things. Jami: I am a senior at Chillicothe High School. My advice for underclassmen is to listen to all of the advice that the agriculture teachers give you and do whatever they tell you to, even if you don't like it at first. Trust me; it will be worth it in the end.

My SAE project includes raising and showing market hogs, as well as a place experience at Peniston Produce. The variety of my project has allowed me many opportunities to gain valuable skills for my future. Two skills I have gained are responsibility and knowledge. The responsibility is self-defining, and having more knowledge in my field of work, I can better myself in what I do. My dad and grandpa have had an affect with me on everything I do. My advice to the younger students is to get involved all you can because if you don't, you will definitely regret it! I'm Jordan, and this is my senior year at Chillicothe High School. I have been a member of the Chillicothe FFA since I started high school. My SAE project is working concession stands for the Chillicothe Parks and Recreation Department. I've improved my SAE project by raising hogs for the rest of my high school career. After high school, I plan to attend a four-year college and major in agricultural. The variety in my project and activities that I've participated in during my time of being in FFA has allowed me many opportunities to gain valuable skills like listening and how to be a more efficient worker. My favorite part of FFA are all the activities and field trips we do, especially Barnwarming. My advice to the underclassmen is to enjoy every minute of your high school career because it goes by real fast. Also, try to listen to every important thing your teachers tell you because it'll be very helpful in the future.

This summer, I went to State FFA Camp with our chapter. I also went to many different shows for my hogs and sheep. I received overall reserve champion wether dam at the Missouri State Fair. My future plans are to attend Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville and major in either Ag Business or Animal Science, I haven't quite decided what I want to do yet. My advice to the younger students would be to do everything right the first time; it will save you lots of work in the long run. I am a senior at CHS, and I have been a member of the Chillicothe FFA during the last three  and a half years. For my Supervised Agriculture Experience or my SAE project, I have a job and work about 25 hours a week. My project has allowed me many opportunities to gain valuable skills for my future which includes enrolling in the nursing program at NCMC. While spending over half of the day at the Litton Agricultural Campus during my senior year, I'm sure I will learn many more things than I already have by being in Agricultural classes for the last couple of years. My favorite part about being involved in FFA is participating in all the activities we do, especially Barnwarming. My advice to younger students that plan on being in the Agricultural classes would be to really listen to everything that the Agricultural teachers say; they are there to help you.
