FFA CORNER 2014-2015

RILEY - This is my senior year at CHS. I have been a member of the Chillicothe FFA for the last four years. My SAE is working at the Fast Lanes Bowling Alley. Valuable skills I have learned from working are time management and how to be more responsible with my money. After I graduate, I'm moving to Virginia, but I will still continue my education. My future plans are to do online classes through NCMC to become an agriculture instructor. From being in FFA, I've learned how to do most things on my own and how to keep better track of my money. My advice to younger students would be to get as involved as possible and to just have fun. ZACH - This is my senior year of high school at CHS. I have been part of the Chillicothe FFA chapter for the last four years. The supervised agricultural experience I am currently doing includes raising show pigs and working at Trans-Ova Genetics. The experience I have gained from my projects has taught me great responsibility and gained work ethic. My future plans include going to Linn State Technical School. My advice to my younger peers would be to not be afraid of getting up in front and saying what is on your mind.
LAUREN - This is my senior year at CHS. I have been a member of the Chillicothe FFA for 4 years. My SAE projects are my 4 horses and raising swine. Being in FFA has taught me so many responsibilities like going out and checking my animals daily. It's so rewarding to work so hard on something and get a good outcome. My advice to the younger kids would be to be all you can be and try new things. Hello, I'm Tyler. I am currently a senior at CHS. This is my fourth year of agricultural classes at the Litton Ag Center. It is also my fourth year as a member of the FFA. My SAE project right now is being a delivery driver for Pizza Hut. A few skills I have improved while in the FFA are responsibility and patience. I am involved in hunting and fishing club, FFA, Skills USA, and I am in my second year of auto tech at GRTS. My future plans include possibly going to Grand River Technical School for diesel mechanics and on working on the railroad with my cousin. While in the FFA, a skill I learned is how to manage my money better by using record books and writing down where money is going. My advice to younger students would be to try your hardest and succeed at what you like to do.
LAUREN - For the past four years I have been a member of the Chillicothe FFA Chapter. I am a current graduate of CHS. I am currently serving as Chapter 1st Vice President and Area II President. My supervised agricultural experience program consists of goat production and agri-science research animal systems. I raise meat and dairy goats. Raising these animals has taught me responsibility because I am caring for another living creature other than myself. I also conduct science experiments with my animals to discover better management practices that I can use to care for them. These projects have helped me develop time management, communication, and record keeping skills. After high school, I plan on attending the University of Missouri in Columbia. I plan to major in agriculture education and minor in animal science. I hope to become an agriculture instructor and incorporate agri-science into the teaching curriculum. I have acquired many different skills while being a member of FFA, but the one I most value is communication. FFA helped me get out of my comfort zone and let my voice, thoughts, and ideas be heard. My advice to younger students is to get involved and don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone and try something new. You may discover things about yourself you never knew before. Don't let people tell you that you can't because you have more potential than you realize. TIMBER - This is my senior year at CHS. I have been a member of Chillicothe FFA during the last 4 years. My SAE project is working at Meadville Locker (which my father owns). After my high school career, I plan on going straight into the workforce and working for my father at Meadville Locker. The two skills that I have learned are responsibility and how to process hogs and cattle. My advice to the younger students is to get involved in almost everything that you can, and it will make your high school experience a lot more fun.
KILEY - This is my senior year at CHS. I have been a member of the Chillicothe FFA for 4 years now. My SAE projects this year include working at Hy-Vee, showing pigs, and my corn field. The variety in my project has helped prepare me for college, which includes attending NCMC for 2 years then transferring to Northwest in Maryville and getting my degree in Ag Business Management. The two skills I have gained the most are responsibility and leadership in taking care of my animals and learning to be a leader. My advice to younger students is to be involved with as many FFA events as possible and attend Washington Leadership Conference. WLC makes a huge impact on your life. You stay with different FFA students from all over the United States and help the world with problems that are going on. You do what you can, with what you have, where you are. GARITH - This is my senior year at CHS. I have been an active FFA member for the past four years. My SAE project is taking care of cows I have raised. My plans after high school are to go to a technical school and work in a body shop. My advice for younger members would be to keep good track of your record book. Furthermore, to be an active member and participate in everything you can.
KATLYN - This is my senior year at CHS. This is currently my fourth year as a member of the Chillicothe FFA Chapter. My SAE projects are 124.2 acres of row crops, a bucket calf, and working for the City of Chula. After high school, I plan on attending North Central Missouri College and getting a degree in Ag Business and Ag Sales. After that, I plan on working for a company to sell seed and also helping on my family farm, Boon Farms. My advice for younger students is to join FFA because it has helped make me the person I am today. DEREK - This is my senior year at CHS. I am a fourth year member of the Chillicothe FFA Chapter. My Supervised Agriculture Experience has been lawn care. From doing lawn care, I have had the opportunity to earn more experienced in this type of work. With this work I have been able to mow and take care of a large 12-acre yard, as well as using another truck and all types of mowing equipment to mow multiple other yards. I also help my dad with his own lawn care business and other times help out on the family farm. Given these many opportunities, I have been able to gain much more experience and knowledge in agriculture. It has also improved my skills that will greatly benefit me in my future. Throughout my few years of this SAE project, it has taught me a lot of responsibility and trained me for what will later come in my life. I am very thankful for my ag teachers - they have helped me and have had a huge impact on my life.
ALEXIS - This is my senior year at CHS. I am a four-year member of the Chillicothe FFA. My SAE project includes working at the Baptist Home which is an assisted living center for elderly people. A skill I have gained is working with the elderly and also people who have disabilities. After graduating CHS, I plan on enrolling in the nursing program at Columbia College to become a Registered Nurse to fulfill my dream in the ICU for neonatal. I joined an Agriculture class when I was a freshman in high school. I knew nothing about agriculture and the way it worked, but I felt the experience of learning new things about the world that I didn't know would be a great opportunity for me to get out there and make new friends and learn new things. I now know that agriculture isn't just about boots and jeans. It's about how we treat others and learning respect in a whole new way. It teaches us about all sorts of things in life such as; how to take care of animals; cattle, swine, poultry, sheep, goats, and horses, how to work in the shop and build all kinds of things, how to manage a record book, and not only all that but you get to join FFA. Don't let the word Agriculture scare you. If you get the chance to take a class at the Ag center, I would suggest taking that opportunity and seeing what we're all about.  CHANCE: This is my senior year at Chillicothe High School and is going on my fourth year in FFA. I am involved in three sports at CHS including: football, wrestling, and track. My SAE includes working in Montana clearing, hiking, and maintaining hiking trails.
-- CAL - Hi, I am a senior at Chillicothe High School. This is my fourth year in FFA. I currently hold the State FFA Degree. My SAE is growing and harvesting 112 acres of corn. My SAE has taught me to grow and sell crops at a good price. Also, it has taught me responsibilities and given me knowledge on growing and harvesting crops. FFA has taught me to be responsible which will help me out later in life. My ag teachers have helped me out so much, and I cannot thank them enough. After I graduate high school, I plan on going to NCMC at Trenton and getting an agriculture degree. After I graduate college, I am planning on farming with my dad and my oldest brother. My advice to younger FFA kids is to be active and participate in FFA.
BAILEY - I am a senior at CHS currently serving as the Secretary for the Chillicothe FFA Chapter officer team. I was an assistant officer my sophomore year and a second vice president my junior year. I also worked at Piggly Wiggly for a year, and I currently work at Fast Lanes Bowling Alley and Essential Kneads Cafe. Thanks to my SAE, I have been able to improve my skills in showing and judging swine. As I have worked in the public with multiple jobs, I have gained skills in working with the public and public interactions. FFA has not only taught me about agriculture, but I have gained leadership abilities that will stay with me my whole life. After high school, I plan on attending the University of Missouri. I hope to graduate college with a degree in Agriculture Education. I would advise younger students to be very involved in FFA. This experience could definitely change your life. The FFA organization has taught me many things that I will never forget such as leadership, responsibility, and being outgoing. I have made many friends through the FFA from all over the nation as well as Missouri. What I would recommend for younger and future students is don't be afraid to put yourself out there. If you want something, you can achieve it so don't give up. It might take hard work, but in the end, it will be more than worth it.

After graduation, I will be attending Northwest Missouri State University and majoring in biomedicine. After graduating college, I plan to attend medical school at Kansas University to become a family physician. Since I have been in FFA, I have learned numerous things.
