FFA CORNER 2015-2016

VINSON - I am a senior at Chillicothe High School. I have my Chapter FFA Degree. I am involved in football, wrestling, and Skills USA. My plan for after high school is to get on the pipeline. What I enjoy about FFA is being around my friends and all the hands-on work. FFA has taught me about life - there are a lot of things that you learn in FFA that you can use later in life. My favorite memory has to be when I built my first bumper in welding; it was a really nice accomplishment. ZACH - This is my senior year at Chillicothe High School. I am a fourth year member of the Chillicothe FFA Chapter. My Supervised Agriculture Experience has been raising and breeding Coonhounds. From this Small Animal Production SAE, I have had the opportunity to further my knowledge with breeding and care of these canines. I have successfully bred and sold Coonhounds all around the United States. I also work for my father in the summer doing concrete construction, such as basements, floors, and sidewalks. Through this FFA chapter, I have learned and developed many knowledgeable skills and qualities that will benefit me in my future. I plan to attend NCMC for two years and then transfer to Northwest Missouri State University for a degree in Agriculture and Natural Resources. I then plan to begin a career in the field of conservation.
TYLER - This is my senior year at CHS. I have been a member of FFA during the last 4 years. My SAE project has been working for over a year at Trans Ova Genetics. Ever since I started working there, I have learned a lot about animals and how they reproduce. I'm also doing welding and fabricating. After high school, I plan to attend the State Technical College in Linn, MO, to take the lineman program to become a Journeyman. My advice to younger students is to become more involved in the FFA as it will help you with communication skills and leadership skills as well. SKYLER - I am a senior at CHS and play football and baseball. What I enjoy about FFA are the different classes - Ag Management has taught me things I can actually use in the future (how I could manage my back accounts, run a business, and more). Ag Shop has taught me work traits and skills few other high school classes could teach you, teaching me how to take pride in my work and be passionate about what I do. FFA has taught me how to be responsible in life and how to be more sociable. Trips I have gone on and people I've met are definitely reasons I'm happy that I joined. My favorite memory is mud volleyball when everyone got together and basically wrestled around in the mud. It was one of the many things like PBR that brought us all together as a family and it's one of the memories I'll always remember. After high school, I have enlisted in the Army as a Tactical Diver where I will weld underwater and much more.
SARA - I'm a senior at Chillicothe High. I have been in FFA for four years now and hold the Chapter FFA Degree. My SAE Project consists of raising a meat Boer goat and then showing it at county fair; I'm also a member of FCCLA. I enjoy doing activities and the meetings with FFA; ever since I became a member I haven't been as shy. One of my favorite memories was when in Ag Science I, I got called the goat girl because I fell in love with goats and decided to raise and show one. My future plans after graduation are to go to Missouri Western for four years and begin Pre-Vet Medicine. I have always had a love for animals, and I would like to dedicate my life to helping them. I'm excited to see what the future has for me after graduation, and I hope to have a hobby that pays instead of a job. SHAYLER - I am currently a senior at Chillicothe High School. I have been a member of the Chillicothe FFA for 4 years. I currently hold the Area FFA Degree. My SAE project is trapping animals during the winter. My SAE has taught me how to deal with money and also how to take care of my stuff. I plan to buy more trapping supplies and grow in my SAE. I am involved in baseball, FCA, Hunting and Fishing Club and senior executive committee. FFA has taught me many things including leadership skills that I can use later in life. What I enjoy about FFA are going outside and being able to get a hands-on experience. My favorite memory that I have in FFA is going to the hog barn and working with the new born piglets. I plan to attend college and obtain a degree in conservation.
REBEKAH - Being a senior at Chillicothe High School and having been involved in FFA for the past four years, I have grown as an individual through the program. My SAE includes working as a part time employee where I assist customers and better their visit at Taco Bell. I enjoy FFA because it has provided me with knowledge, leadership, and wisdom. FFA keeps me involved with what I love, agriculture. It constantly keeps me updated with the new advances in Ag. Not only does it provide me with news, but it keeps me a part of a great program. My favorite memory in FFA is the week leading up to Barnwarming, and then Barnwarming night. My plans after I graduate are to continue my education at Northwest Missouri State University where I will study for 4 years getting a degree in Agriculture Business. My advice for younger students is to get involved. Do the things you never thought you would do, be a part of the team you thought you couldn't be on, and become the person you would want to look up too. You will never succeed unless you try, and failure is a part of life. FFA is not just another club listed on your activities at the end of your high school career, it is a life lesson that will stick with you for many years to come. REMINGTON - For the past four years, I have been a member of the Chillicothe FFA Chapter. I am a senior at Chillicothe High School. My SAE consists of baling and selling straw bales. Throughout the four years selling straw, I have learned a lot about keeping record of how many I sell and whom I sell to. I hire a crew every year to help me get the bales to storage so they don't get damaged by animals or weather. Selling these bales has helped me meet new people and learn how to promote a product. After high school, I plan to attend Northwest Missouri State University. While in FFA, I have learned how to become a better farmer, animal caretaker, and leader. I've learned how to keep records of my income and expenditures (knowing if I'm making money or losing money every month). One of the things I like about FFA is the hands on experience in the shop and with the animals.
McKenna - This is currently my senior year at Chillicothe High School. I have been in the Chillicothe FFA for the past four years. My supervised Agricultural Experience project is working as a waitress at Royal Inn Pizza in Chillicothe. Through my SAE project I have gained many valuable skills that will be useful for my future. I have been on a few contest teams in FFA. My sophomore year I competed in meats evaluation, and my junior year I competed in livestock judging. Throughout high school, I have been involved in Skills USA, FFA, Hunting & Fishing Club, basketball, and cheerleading. After I graduate from CHS, I plan to attend North Central Missouri College for 2 years to become a Physical Therapy Assistant. The FFA organization has taught me many things that I will never forget such as leadership, responsibility, and being outgoing. I have made many friends through the FFA. What I recommend for younger and future students is don't be afraid to put yourself out there. If you want something, you can achieve it so don't give up. It will be all worth it in the end. Nate - I am currently a senior at Chillicothe High School. I have been a member of Chillicothe FFA for four years. I currently hold the chapter FFA degree and have applied for the state FFA degree. I have been an assistant officer and officer in the past. My SAE includes raising and selling a steer at the Livingston county fair. Activities outside of FFA include soccer, basketball, tennis, senior executive committee, National Honor Society, and student council. I will also be in the spring production of High School Musical. I have enjoyed all four years of FFA. Things I enjoy most about FFA are the friendships I have made with my classmates and the relationships that have grown with the advisors. I also enjoy all the meetings and fun things we do outside of school. FFA has taught me some important lessons throughout my high school career. I have learned the value of hard work and how to talk in front of a group of people. I have also learned how to keep track of my money. My favorite memory of FFA was either playing basketball with the advisors at the Christmas party or mud volleyball in September. Next year I plan on attending college and playing basketball.
MARISSA - I am a senior at Chillicothe High School and serve as the Chillicothe FFA President. I currently hold the Chapter FFA degree and am on the Ag Business Management contest team. I am employed at the North Central Missouri Veterinary Services where I work as a vet tech. For my SAE project, I raise and show broiler chickens. This past summer I received Grand Champion Broiler Chickens at the 2015 Livingston County Fair. My other activities include playing the saxophone in the marching band and dancing on the fall dance team. I am a member of the National Honor Society, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the biology club. I love to dance and spend time outdoors with my family. I have danced at Ballet Arts Center for Dance for 14 years now. Through FFA I have been a member of the FFA Knowledge Team, the Parliamentary Procedure Team, and the Agronomy Team. My favorite FFA activity by far is Barnwarming. I love when our chapter can get together and just have the time of our lives dancing and celebrating the fact that we raised so much money for our chapter through our Barnwarming jobs fundraiser! When I graduate from high school, I plan to attend Missouri University of Science and Technology and major in environmental engineering. I have no doubt that FFA has influenced the decision to go into an agriculture-related field, nor that it has played a fundamental part in preparing me to take my next step in life. I truly believe that FFA has given me the skills and experiences needed to be successful in any endeavor. Being the FFA president has been my most fulfilling leadership experience; I truly enjoy leading the group that has been such an important part of my high school career. I am so thankful that I have had the opportunity to be the president of an organization that has helped me grow as a person, given me many new learning experiences, and been the common denominator in many lasting friendships. I hope as president that I can aid in doing the same thing for other students. McCORMICK - I am currently a senior at Chillicothe High school, and this is my 4th year in FFA. My SAE is trapping during the winter. I trap our farm and other surrounding farms in my area to help with wildlife management to help with the deer, rabbit and quail populations. One thing that I love about FFA is meeting new people from other schools in Missouri and making new friends. Outside FFA I am involved in the Hunting and Fishing Club and a member of the New Lake Big Bass Fishing Club. In my spare time I enjoy hunting and fishing and spending time with my family. After high school I plan to attend college at Trenton, Missouri to major in agronomy while working at Owens Trenching in Laredo.
MAGGIE - I am a senior at Chillicothe High School. This is my fourth year as a member of the Chillicothe FFA Chapter. I am currently serving as the Chapter 2nd Vice President. My SAE includes selling produce from my garden, raising laying hens, and working at Resor Seeds in Chillicothe. Other than FFA, I am involved in Band, Future Business Leaders of America, Student Council, Key Club, Spanish Club, and CHS Players. After I graduate high school, I plan to attend the University of Missouri in Columbia and major in Agriculture Journalism. My favorite memories of FFA include competing on contest teams. I have participated in Knowledge Team, Meats Evaluation, Agricultural Issues and Ag Sales. What I love the most about competing in contest is learning valuable life skills like teamwork and responsibility. My favorite memory of FFA was when I was in the National FFA Band this year. I got to play in a band with over 90 students from over 30 states. We performed at general sessions at the convention and in downtown Louisville. I am thankful for being a part of this great organization where I have made friends and memories that will last a lifetime.  BRYCE - This is my senior year at Chillicothe High School. I have been a member of Chillicothe FFA for 4 years. My SAE project is working at Royal Inn and raising rabbits. My SAE has taught me to handle responsibility better. My plans after I graduate are that I am going to attend Northwest Missouri State University majoring in Elementary Education. Some things that I have learned while in FFA are how to be responsible, how to be a leader, and how to manage my finances. My favorite memory from FFA is mud volleyball. The thing that I have enjoyed about FFA is learning more about agriculture in general. The ag teachers have made a lasting impression on me that will last a lifetime.
MACKENZIE - This year, I am a senior at Chillicothe High School and a member of the Chillicothe FFA program. My SAE project for this year is rabbits. I currently have one purebred lion head - her name is Toasted. My plans for the future are to become an RNA in the nursing program. I have managed the CHS girls' softball team, been a member of the Rich Hill Junior Workers 4-H Club for three years, and have been in the Chillicothe Hunting and Fishing Club for two years. I have enjoyed these past years in the FFA program. I think the best part is the Ag Olympus. This program has taught me that by working hard and keeping your mind right you can do things that you never thought you could do. JOSEPH - This is my senior year at Chillicothe High School and my fourth year as a member of the Chillicothe FFA Chapter. For my SAE, I work for my dad at Anderson Auto Salvage. My future plans regarding my SAE is that one day I plan to be part owner of the business. Outside of FFA, a few of my buddies and I are involved in a fishing club (New Lake Big Bass Fishing Club). FFA has taught me many leadership qualities and how to be responsible. After graduation, I plan to become a heavy equipment operator.
HELENA - This is my senior year, and I have been a member of FFA for the past four years. My SAE projects are breeding and raising Mini Rex rabbits and Great Pyrenees dogs and working at McDonald's. I have been highly involved in FFA during my time as a member. I will forever cherish every public speaking contest, meeting, state convention, hot summer fairs, all the countless hours spent on things like my record book or state degree and every second I spent on stage in front of over 8,000 people with my Agriculture Issues team as we received 4th in state. Some other things that I have been involved in during high school are Future Business Leaders of America, band, and soccer. After I graduate from CHS, I plan to attend Northwest Missouri State University and major in agriculture education and minor in photography. FFA has showed me that if you are willing to step out of your comfort zone, work hard every single day, and do anything that you set your mind to, it will pay off in the end. My advice to the younger FFA members is to never let the fear of failure keep you from trying your best, always remember that FFA is not always about livestock, each and every one of you has the potential to be great, and enjoy every single day that you have left in high school and FFA. It goes by faster than you think. GARRETT - This is my senior year at Chillicothe High School and second year of Industrial Welding at GRTS. I have been an FFA member since my freshman year. My Supervised Agriculture Experience started with working at the Chillicothe Bootery and helping with the remodel of the new store. Once I turned 17 and got my own truck I realized I needed gas money, so I started welding gates for the Litton farm which was my favorite memory of working in the ag shop. I also continued doing odd jobs at the Chillicothe Bootery and lawn care of a 12-acre yard. I started working at Orscheln's in July of 2014 and continue to work there. I recently started working with Boley & Boley Insulation which I hope to continue through the summer and while I attend college at NCMC where I'll get an associate's degree for Applied Sciences. I plan to do and additional year at Northwest Missouri College to earn a Bachelors for Applied Sciences. After college, I plan to go into a welding career. I would like to be hired into a fabrication shop or to do structural welding. Without FFA and the help of Mr. Black, I wouldn't of found that I had an interest in welding.
REBECCA - For the past four years, I have been a member of the Chillicothe FFA Chapter. I am a senior at Chillicothe High School. I am currently serving as the Chapter FFA Secretary. My SAE consists of showing market hogs and working as a pharmacy technician at Hometown Pharmacy. Throughout the four years working with hogs, I have gained many responsibilities that come with taking care of another living creature. Working with hogs has taught me patience and time management. Working at the pharmacy has allowed me to gain proper customer service skills. After high school, I plan to attend Missouri Western State University and major in nursing. While in FFA, I have learned how to be an effective leader, outgoing, and responsible. FFA has given me amazing opportunities and lifelong friendships that I will cherish forever. My advice to the younger and future students is to always work hard toward your goals. Step out of your "box" and get involved and always have faith in yourself. I am currently a senior attending CHS and a fourth year FFA member. My supervised agricultural experience consists of raising, showing, and selling registered Berkshire pigs. Being a member of FFA, you are given many exciting opportunities and fun things to be involved with. The thing I look forward to the most that FFA offers is our county and state fair. I enjoy showing and love the atmosphere of livestock shows in general. This organization has given me many countless learning opportunities and has taught me many valuable life skills. I have learned patience, good record keeping skills, public speaking skills, and most importantly, it has taught me how to get out of my comfort zone.
FFA has helped shape me into the person I am today and also has prepared me for college and the rest of my life. I have discovered my passion for agriculture and plan to attend North Central Missouri College for two years then transfer to Northwest Missouri State University to earn a degree in Ag Business. I plan to become a salesperson for an agricultural related company. If I could give advice to an underclassmen, I would say find your passion and pursue it.
