- A crowd of Grand River Technical School students, teachers and
administrators watched a Life Flight Eagle helicopter take off west
of the school this (Friday) morning just after a mock victim was
extricated from a crashed car with the Jaws of Life and the
Chillicothe Department of Emergency Services during the annual mock
accident scene and fly-in organized by the GRTS' SkillsUSA chapter.
Organizers say the goal of the event, which was held in the morning
and afternoon, was designed to raise awareness of consequences of
drinking and driving.
SkillsUSA
Mock Accident/Fly-In
Grand River
Technical School's chapter of SkillsUSA will be hosting a "Mock
Accident/Fly-In" on Friday March, 28th. Chillicothe Medical
Services will respond to the "scene of an automobile
accident" involving a couple of members of the SkillsUSA club.
The "victims" will be extricated from the vehicle,
provided medical assistance, and flown out in Life Flight Eagle (in
the AM session) and Life Net (in the PM session). Following the
demonstration, Chief of Police Rick Knouse will address the students
on the hazards of driving under the influence. Students will also
have the opportunity to experience the devastating effects of
alcohol/drugs on a person's ability to function normally by wearing
special glasses provided by the Chillicothe Police Department. These
special glasses will impair a person's ability to judge their
surroundings thereby simulating the effects of intoxication, and the
students will have the opportunity to wear them and navigate an
obstacle course/walk a straight line. Following those activities,
the SkillsUSA members will be treated to food/refreshments.
