Summer Classes for Middle School Students at GRTS
Careers So Hot They're Cool - Get Connected!
Grand River
Technical School is offering summer school classes May 28 - June 30,
2009, for students who will be entering grades 6, 7, 8 and 9 for the
2009-10 school year! Students were able to select one of these three exciting courses! These fast-paced, fun, and challenging
summer school classes will feature a number of careers including:

Course #1:
Mechanical, Technical, and Construction Careers
- Auto
Service Technology: Learn the basics of automotive service and
maintenance.
- Auto
Collision Technology: Gain hands-on experience in the basics of
collision repair.
- ATV
Service: Learn the basics of ATV maintenance and repair.
- Carpentry:
Learn to use tools of the trade and begin to "build"
on a great career!
- Welding:
Welding is a highly refined skill involving delicate balances of
the right amount of heat and pressure. Students will learn the
process of MIG (wire) welding.
Students will
rotate through each career field, developing fundamental skills,
learning basic processes, and discovering numerous career choices
along each pathway. All classes are project-based and conducted in a
"hands-on" atmosphere.

Course #2:
Health Services Careers
SMACK! The Summer Medical Academy Created
for Kids
The Summer
Medical Academy Created for Kids offers students exposure to various
career opportunities in the health care field. Learn what it is like
to work on an ambulance or a life-flight helicopter. Find out how
some diseases spread from one person to another. Discover how the
body functions every day to keep us alive. Learn to take a pulse and
other vital signs. Students will have the opportunity to talk with
several different types of health care professionals and take weekly
field trips.

Course #3:
Computer Maintenance & Technology
Students will
participate in hands-on labs designed to familiarize them with
personal computers, basic trouble-shooting, and file maintenance.
They will learn about social networking sites, internet safety, and
online etiquette. They will also gain practical experience in
working with electronic components by participating in activities
such as building robots.

Students
should make career choices based on abilities and interests. Through
GRTS Summer School 2009, students will experience a
"snapshot" of all the opportunities available to them in
high school and learn how GRTS prepares students for high-skill,
high-demand careers for the 21st century!
