NEW TRADITIONS

New Traditions is a statewide network of resource centers and resource personnel. The goal of New Traditions is to help members of special populations enroll, enter, and complete vocational programs. Special populations are defined as:

  • Individuals preparing for nontraditional training and employment
  • Single parents, including single pregnant women
  • Displaced homemakers
  • Individuals from economically disadvantaged families, including foster children
  • Individuals with disabilities
  • Individuals with other barriers to educational achievement, including individuals with limited English proficiency

Recruitment and Awareness

Helping students and parents learn about vocational opportunities through:

  • Assistance with Career Days
  • Career Counseling
  • Career Decision Making
  • Community Representatives
  • Distribution of Resources
  • Nontraditional Workshops
  • Parent Awareness Activities
  • Teen Parent Workshops
  • Vocational Assessments

Program Retention

Helping students succeed in vocational programs through:

  • Adult Re-entry Services
  • Self-esteem Building
  • Study Skills Techniques
  • Support Groups and Counseling
  • Time/Stress Management Techniques

Job Seeking Skills

Helping students find sustaining employment through:

  • Completing Job Applications
  • Determining Appropriate Dress
  • Teaching Résumé Writing
  • Developing Interviewing Skills

Professional Development for Educators

Offering workshops and technical assistance in:

  • Adult Re-entry Needs
  • Barriers for Special Populations
